About the SIVAC Initiative
The SIVAC Initiative is a project of the AMP's Health Policy and Institutional Development (HPID) center. HPID is a WHO Collaborating Center supporting evidence-based immunization policy decision-making. The SIVAC Initiative, launched in 2008, is a support project towards the creation and strengthening of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs).
The NITAGs are multidisciplinary teams. They are formed of national experts whose task is to provide health authorities with evidence-based independent advice on matters relating to vaccines and immunization policies targeted to all sections of the population.
The objective of the SIVAC Initiative is to support the governments of low- and middle-income countries to formulate relevant immunization policies and programs in light of the local context, through the implementation of functional NITAGs. The SIVAC Initiative acts as a catalyst in the networking and collaboration of NITAGs across the world. Drawing on its experience, and in close collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and its other partners, the SIVAC Initiative develops specific training courses and tools aimed at the NITAGs.
