Abstract

A new publication supported by the Africhol project and entitled "Cholera in Africa: Microbiology, Epidemiology, Prevention and Control" is now available.

This issue of The Journal of Infectious Diseases, Volume 208, Supplement 1, 1 November 2013, is the first-of-its-kind compilation presenting an overview of cholera disease burden and critical issues for the diagnosis, detection, prevention, and control of cholera in Africa. The Supplement brings together articles from individual countries (South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Mozambique, and Togo) highlighting the human toll of cholera, articles about cholera vaccines and vaccine stockpile, as well as systematic reviews about environmental determinants in the transmission and amplification of cholera in Africa.
