Dr. Stanley A. Plotkin is emeritus professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. As principal of Vaxconsult, LLC, he provides consulting to vaccine manufacturers, biotechnology companies, and non-profit research organizations. 

Until 1991, Dr. Plotkin was professor of pediatrics and microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania, professor of virology at the Wistar Institute, and director of infectious diseases and senior physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In 1991, Dr. Plotkin joined the vaccine manufacturer Pasteur-Mérieux-Connaught (which is now named Sanofi Pasteur), where he was medical and scientific director for seven years.

Dr. Plotkin has developed several vaccines, including the rubella vaccine (RA27/3 strain), which is now in use throughout the world. He has also worked extensively on the development and application of other vaccines such as anthrax, oral polio, rabies, varicella, cytomegalovirus, and rotavirus.

Dr. Plotkin has written or edited hundreds of articles and several books, including Vaccines (Saunders Co Ltd, 1988), which is considered the standard textbook on the topic.
