March 14, 2017
On 11 March 2017, Agence de Médecine Préventive (AMP) signed a partnership agreement with the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) for the RIPOST project, funded through the financial agreement signed between Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and WAHO on 22 February 2017.
RIPOST’s objective is to strengthen health systems by improving public health capacity to fight epidemics in West Africa, specifically in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Niger, and Togo.
This agreement marks WAHO’s recruitment of AMP as the head of an international partnership that includes AMP, the Institute of Public Health, Epidemiology, and Development, the International Association of National Public Health Institutes, the Institute of Research and Development, Public Health France, and SOLTHIS.
AMP with the partners will implement two components of the RIPOST project:
- Component 1 – Capacity building: development activities for public health professionals in field epidemiology (monitoring, information systems, epidemiology investigations and response)
- Component 2 – Community mobilization: development activities to strengthen social and community mobilization for the prevention of and fight against epidemics
Concluding this agreement is a significant step for AMP and the partner group, which will for the first time work alongside WAHO and member states, thanks to public funding from AFD, which receives development funding from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.
