Dr. Martin Mengel is in charge of AMP's program on enteric diseases. He is also project coordinator of Africhol. In this role, he is responsible for overall project coordination and all day-to-day activities related to project implementation.

Prior to joining AMP in 2011, Mengel completed the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. He has worked on various public health projects worldwide including outbreak investigations, surveillance (H1N1, HIV-AIDS, food-borne disease), epidemic intelligence, and teaching. Before that, he worked as a pediatrician at the children’s clinic at the University Hospital of Cologne in Germany and as a study physician in clinical pharmacology.

Dr. Mengel holds an MS in parasitic tropical diseases from the University of Valencia, Spain, an MD from the University of Bonn, Germany, and a master’s degree in field epidemiology from the National School of Health in Madrid, Spain.
