Over the past decade, the international community has committed tremendous resources to increasing access to new and underused vaccines worldwide. Thanks to these efforts, current immunization programs save more than three million lives per year.
Need for Stronger Services
Strong immunization services are essential to sustain past gains and to ensure that new, more expensive vaccines—that have the potential to save several million more lives among the world’s poor—are properly introduced. This requires, among other things, a robust vaccine supply chain that is capable of delivering the right vaccine to the right place at the right time. This means having effective technologies, trained personnel, efficient distribution systems, and appropriate waste management.
